Stewardship and Asceticism in Scripture and Christian History
In session two of the Theology of Money course, Alcorn provides a biblical picture of stewardship by examining Jesus’ eleven parables on the topic. He focuses both on lessons about the master as well as lessons about the stewards. In scripture, the master has ownership, power, trust, temporary absence, strictness, generosity, and imminent return. Likewise, the steward has industriousness, accountability, wisdom in investing, readiness for the master’s return, fear of the master, and single-mindedness in service. Alcorn concludes this session with a biblical look at asceticism.
Randy Alcorn is the founder and director of Eternal Perspective Ministries (EPM), a nonprofit organization dedicated to teaching biblical truth and to reaching people in need by supporting those who help the unreached, unfed, unsupported, unborn, unreconciled, and untrained. Before starting EPM in 1990, Alcorn co-pastored the Good Shepherd Community Church outside Gresham, Oregon for fourteen years. Randy is a best-selling author of over 50 books including Courageous; Heaven; The Treasure Principle; and the Gold Medallion winner for fiction, Safely Home. He resides in Gresham, Oregon with his wife, Nanci, and their Golden Retriever, Maggie. The Alcorns have two married daughters, Karina and Angela, and are the proud grandparents of five grandsons.
