The field of personal counseling has benefitted from more than 20 years of research examining the role of relational factors and client motivation in successful outcomes. This session helps financial advisors appreciate how insights and skills derived from personal counseling (research) can be applied in their work with clients. The session teaches how to 1) develop skills in agenda setting and structuring financial advising sessions; 2) learn how to clarify clients’ values and incorporate them into their advising; and 3) understand how to use tools that enhance client motivation and the advisor-advisee relationship. Both presenters are licensed psychologists with clinical and research experience.
