This breakout session takes a look at the relationship between Ezra and Nehemiah in the Old Testament as a model for overcoming the gulf in relationships between advisor and pastor and bringing mutual respect, encouragement, and growth into that relationship. Paul Anthes and Wayne Schmidt share from personal experience. The two have been accountability partners for many years and have forged a relationship as pastor and advisor that has been mutually beneficial to each. You will be inspired by their story and equipped to boldly enter into relationship with your "Ezra" or "Nehemiah."
Paul Anthes is the founder and president of the Financial Advisory Corporation, having started the firm in 1988. His primary roles include working with clients, leadership, and strategic planning for the firm. He is also the founder and lead coach of R3 Coaching, specializing in teaching people to focus their time to enhance life balance. Paul graduated from Michigan State University and is a Certified Financial Planner™. He is a Charter Member of Kingdom Advisors and a member of the Advisory Council for the Ron Blue Institute at Indiana Wesleyan University. Paul and his wife have been married over 30 years and have two children.
Dr. Wayne Schmidt is the General Superintendent of The Wesleyan Church. After originally sensing a leading to the field of business, Dr. Schmidt subsequently answered a call to vocational ministry. He was co-founder and gave pastoral leadership to Kentwood Community Church (Grand Rapids, Michigan) for over 30 years, during which time the congregation gave birth to ten other churches and became home to multiple ethnicities. From 2010 - 2016, he was Vice-President for Wesley Seminary (at Indiana Wesleyan University), formed in 2009 to serve adult learners who remain in their work or ministry contexts. His doctoral work focused on change management and he has authored four books. His accountability partnership of more than 30 years with Kingdom Advisor Paul Anthes has helped Wayne to love God, to love his family, and to serve faithfully in ministry.
