Creson, who is on the front lines of the effort to have the Bible translated into the world’s languages, offers a thorough picture of the state of scripture translation in our time. There are over 7,000 languages in the world and 2,000 of those still do not have the Bible in their native tongue (This is a number equal in population to the United States – 350 million.) Creson shares that, when people hear the good news of the Gospel in their language, they can relate to it best and are most responsive. In closing, he challenges the audience that it is possible to finish the task of translating scripture into all of the world’s languages in this generation.
Bob Creson was appointed President of Wycliffe Bible Translators USA in May 2003. He oversees Wycliffe’s Last Languages Campaign, an historic effort to provide resources to start Bible translation programs in the remaining one-third of the world’s languages by 2025. Since joining Wycliffe Bible Translators in 1983, Bob has served in a variety of positions, including leadership roles in Wycliffe Bible Translators International and SIL International, including field director in Cameroon and Chad and is the author of The Finish Line: Stories of Hope Through Bible Translation. Bob and his wife, Dallas, have four adult children and reside in Orlando, Florida.
