Some business owners who embrace a profound faith claim that “God owns my business.” In this session, host Jeff Thomas interviews business executives who have taken the steps to make that belief a reality: they have donated the ownership of all or most of their companies to faith-based organizations. This case study examines the practices of the former owner and current operator of a large crane company, the founder of a micro-finance company, and the founder of a wealth management company who aspires to this position.
Alan Barnhart is CEO of Barnhart Crane & Rigging, one of the largest heavy-lift and heavy-transport companies in the U.S. In 2007, Alan and his brother, Eric, gave the entire company to National Christian Foundation, though they still run its daily operations. His passion for missions has taken him to over 60 countries, and the company's profits are invested in strategic missions. Barnhart team members and spouses take part in the missions decision-making process, with 50+ team members having traveled internationally in that effort. Alan and his wife, Katherine, have six adult children and live in Tennessee.
Jeff Rutt is CEO of Keystone Custom Homes and founder of HOPE International, a nonprofit, Christ-centered micro-enterprise development organization working in developing countries to provide small loans and biblically based business training to entrepreneurs, enabling them to start or expand small businesses. HOPE’s goal is to provide permanent solutions to poverty while restoring dignity to families. HOPE now works in 15 countries, serving almost one million clients. Jeff and his wife, Sue, are the parents of three adult children and live in Lancaster, PA.
