Retirement in the 21st century is different than it was in the 20th century. As the Western population experiences longer lives but often earlier retirement, how should a financial advisor’s clients plan for, and live in, retirement? Some anticipate a never-ending vacation, while others might never be financially able to fully retire. A faith-based system of financial advising includes the concept of one’s calling – the bigger purpose for which each individual exists. Together, the client and advisor can discuss time appropriation and the impact of culture, rest, calling, work, and stewardship of life to determine the client’s preferred retirement scenario.
